Ramsour's Mill Battle Weekend - Living HIstory

Ramsour's Mill Battle Weekend is a living history weekend commemorating the June 20th, 1780 Battle of Ramsour's Mill, when area Patriots met Tories on a hillside just outside the little town of Lincolnton, NC. The weekend activities include the DAR/SAR Patriot Gala, the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Mass Grave, Ghost Walks through the Battlefield, Revolutionary War reenactments and music, period cooking, colonial crafts, firearms demonstrations, battle site tours, and more.

Lincolnton's early settlers played a pivotal role in the American Revolution when neighbors were pitted against one another as 1000 loyalists and about 400 patriots clashed in The Battle of Ramsour’s Mill on June 20, 1780. The casualties were high and equally divided, with an estimated seventy men killed and more than two hundred wounded.

The loyalist defeat to a much smaller patriot militia is said to have prevented General Cornwallis from winning North Carolina for the British crown. Today, this Lincolnton, NC patriot victory is commemorated each year with The Battle Weekend Celebration at historic Battleground Park, the site of this historically significant Patriot victory.

This year, the commemoration will take place the weekend of June 16-18 with the Patriot Gala on Friday evening (at the Lincoln Cultural Center) and the Wreath Laying Ceremony on Saturday morning at 10am at the resting place of some 70 unknown in a Mass Grave near Battleground Elementary School.

At 1pm, George and Martha Washington will talk about colonial life during the Revolutionary War with a keynote presentation.

Throughout the weekend at Battleground Park there will be hearth cooking demonstrations, reenactments and weapons demonstrations, a militia encampment, tours, heritage demonstrations, and period crafts.

Suitable for all ages, and FREE.
