Notification of Untreated Wastewater Discharge
On Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, at approximately 1:00pm, the City of Lincolnton received a call about a sanitary sewer overflow and discharge of untreated wastewater near 306 N Generals Blvd. City of Lincolnton crews were on site quickly and determined the discharge was due to a pipe failure.
Approximately 7,000 gallons of raw untreated wastewater spilled into the Walker Branch, which eventually runs into the South Fork River.
The Lincolnton Distribution & Collection team located the pipe failure, and the necessary repairs were completed by 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
This does not affect the drinking water and no fish were killed.
The NC Department of Environmental Quality has been notified that the problem has been resolved.
