COP - Citizens on Patrol
The Lincolnton Police Department seeks community minded volunteers to participate in launching a Citizens on Patrol program, or COP, to help patrol the city. This new program will start with a primary focus on the downtown central business district, the rail trail and parks.
Volunteer COPs are not armed and will not make arrests. COP members assist the Lincolnton Police Department by being additional "eyes & ears" for LPD. Volunteers are trained as observers and witnesses to recognize crimes and irregularities while on patrol. COPs will use proper patrol observation techniques and gain a thorough knowledge of their assigned service areas. As an extension of LPD, COPs coordinate with central command and the communications center to alert officers to issues, incidents and suspicious activities. The COP program is utilized in both business and residential districts.
All participants must successfully complete training before being assigned to a patrol.
All volunteers must sign a volunteer waiver form as well as be subject to a thorough background investigation.
If you are interested in participating in the program, please complete the
COP interest form at this link.
